Origin & history
The Japanese Spitz is a breed developed in Japan in the first half of the 20th century, probably from imported white German spitz crossed with other Nordic spitz. The standard was set after the Second World War by the Japan Kennel Club. Designed above all as a companion and watchdog, it appeals with its pure white coat, its tail curled over the back and its pointed muzzle reminiscent of a fox. Lively, cheerful and very attached to its family, it remains a medium-sized companion valued for its balanced temperament and its natural cleanliness.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Japanese Spitz shed a lot?
Yes, especially during the two annual sheds. Regular brushing is enough, however, to maintain its white coat, which tends to stay clean naturally.
Does it bark a lot?
It is a good watchdog that readily signals visitors. Early training helps channel its barking.
Is it suitable for apartment life?
Yes, its medium size and its attachment to its family make it adaptable to apartments, provided it is given daily outings and stimulation.
