Origin & history
The Shiba Inu is the smallest of the Japanese spitz-type dog breeds and one of the oldest in the country. Historically used to hunt small game in the mountainous regions of Japan, it has a compact body, a dense coat and a curled tail. The breed nearly disappeared in the 20th century, particularly after the war, before being preserved and reconstituted from the surviving lines. Recognized as a natural treasure in Japan, the Shiba has become popular all over the world. Lively, independent and proud, it has a strong character and a discreet but genuine attachment to its owner.
