Origin & history

The Pekingese is a small companion dog originating from China, where for centuries it was the favored companion of the imperial court. Considered a sacred dog, it was reserved for the imperial family and held in great respect. Its spread to the West dates back to the 19th century, after a few individuals arrived in Europe. Recognizable by its long, abundant coat, its flattened face and its proud bearing, it walks with a characteristic rolling gait. Dignified, courageous and attached to its owners, the Pekingese has an assertive temperament that contrasts with its small size and its appearance of a silky cushion.
