Origin & history
The Saluki is one of the oldest known sighthounds, associated for millennia with the Middle East and the nomadic peoples of those regions. Valued for its speed and endurance, it hunted game in the desert alongside its masters, who held it in high esteem. Elegant and fine, with a long-limbed body and sometimes long fringes on the ears and tail, it later spread to the West, where it was bred as a show and companion dog. Reserved, sensitive and independent, the Saluki retains a strong chasing instinct and a great capacity for running.
