Origin & history
The Ragdoll originated in California in the 1960s under the impetus of breeder Ann Baker, from a white longhaired female and her descendants. Its name, which means "rag doll" in English, evokes its tendency to relax completely when picked up. Selected for its gentleness and its blue-eyed colorpoint coat, this large cat with a semi-long coat quickly spread. Known to be calm, sociable and very attached to people, it has become one of the most popular companion cats in the world for its placid character and its majestic appearance.
