Origin & history
The Ragamuffin comes from the Ragdoll, from which it directly derives following a split among American breeders in the 1990s. To broaden the gene pool and the range of colors, crosses were introduced, producing a gentle and imposing cat with a semi-long, silky coat available in every color. Recognized under this name from that period onward, the Ragamuffin has retained the placid and affectionate temperament of its ancestor. It is a docile companion, attached to its family, known for letting itself be carried and for its large size that develops slowly into adulthood.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Ragamuffin and the Ragdoll?
The Ragamuffin descends from the Ragdoll but accepts all colors and coat patterns, whereas the Ragdoll is limited to a more restricted range.
Is the Ragamuffin a large cat?
Yes, it is a large breed with slow growth: it often reaches its adult size around four years of age.
Does its coat require a lot of care?
Its semi-long, silky coat mats little, and weekly brushing is generally enough to keep it in good condition.
