Origin & history
The Norwegian Forest Cat is a semi-longhaired breed originating from Scandinavia, perfectly adapted to the harsh winters of the North. Long present in Norwegian farms and forests, it holds a place in Nordic folklore. Its thick waterproof coat, ruff and bushy tail protect it from cold and damp. An excellent climber and hunter, it lived freely for a long time before being selectively bred and officially recognized as a breed in the 20th century. Large, robust and well-proportioned, the Norwegian appeals today with its majestic appearance and its gentle, sociable and well-balanced character.
