Origin & history
Originating from the French Pyrenees, this small herding dog has accompanied transhumant shepherds for centuries in driving flocks of sheep. Lively, hardy, and deeply attached to its owner, it worked alongside the large Pyrenean Mountain Dogs in charge of protection. Its light silhouette and sometimes tousled coat allowed it to withstand the harsh mountain climate. Officially recognized in the early 20th century, it distinguished itself as a messenger dog during World War I. Today appreciated as a companion, it retains boundless energy and a very marked working instinct that require stimulation.
