Origin & history
The Beauceron, or Berger de Beauce, is an ancient French breed derived from the herding dogs of the plains of northern France. Used for centuries to drive and guard flocks of sheep and herds of cattle, it stands out for its hardiness, intelligence, and the double dewclaws on its hind legs, a typical trait of the breed. Versatile, it was also employed as a guard dog, defense dog, and as a military and police dog. Imposing, with a short coat often black and tan, the Beauceron is a loyal, courageous, and protective dog that requires consistent training and sustained activity.
