Origin & history
The Berger de Picardie, or Picardy Shepherd, is a French breed originating from the north of France, in the Picardy region. A rustic herding dog, it drove and guarded flocks of sheep in the plains of the North. Recognizable by its wiry, tousled coat, its erect ears, and its expressive gaze, it was for a long time a discreet peasant companion. The two world wars, which ravaged its regions of origin, gravely threatened its existence. Saved by a few enthusiasts, it remains today a rare breed, valued for its balanced temperament, its intelligence, and its attachment to its family.
