Origin & history
The Curly-Coated Retriever is one of the oldest retriever breeds, developed in England. Recognizable by its entirely curly coat, which protects it from cold and brambles, it was selected to retrieve game on land as well as in water, particularly waterfowl. Several hunting and water dogs are thought to have contributed to its formation. Valued by hunters for its endurance, its nose and its sturdiness, it remains fairly rare today. Intelligent, independent and loyal, it retains a strong retrieving instinct and enjoys activity, while being calm and reserved at home.
