Origin & history
The Toyger is a recent cat breed, developed in the United States from the 1980s onward with the aim of creating a domestic cat evoking a miniature tiger. Resulting notably from crosses based on the Bengal and domestic tabby cats, it was selected for its orange striped coat and its patterns reminiscent of the big cat, without any recent input of wild blood. Gradually recognized by some feline associations, the Toyger remains a purely domestic cat. Affectionate, playful and sociable, it bonds with its family and retains a balanced temperament, far removed from the wildness suggested by its appearance.
