Origin & history
The Bombay is a cat with a deep, glossy black coat, created in the United States in the 1950s by the breeder Nikki Horner, who wished to obtain a cat evoking a small black panther. To do so, she crossed black American Shorthairs with Burmese cats, giving rise to a cat with a jet-black coat and large copper eyes. The name pays tribute to the Indian city, in reference to the black panthers of Asia. Officially recognized a few years later, the Bombay charms with its wild feline appearance combined with a gentle, sociable, and very affectionate temperament.
