Origin & history
The Tonkinese is a cat resulting from crossing the Siamese and the Burmese, developed mainly in North America from the middle of the 20th century onward. It combines the qualities of its two ancestors: the elegant silhouette and communicative temperament of the Siamese, paired with the soft coat and roundness of the Burmese. Its fur shows a particular pattern called "mink," with softer contrasts, and its eyes often display a characteristic aquamarine hue. Playful, affectionate and very sociable, the Tonkinese constantly seeks the company of its humans and keeps a lively, curious character throughout its life.
