Origin & history
The Burmese descends from a cat named Wong Mau, brought from Burma to the United States in the 1930s. Crossed with Siamese cats, she was at the origin of a breeding program that fixed a breed with a short, glossy coat of characteristic sepia color. Two types later developed: the American, rounder, and the European, more slender. Renowned for its affectionate, sociable temperament and its strong attachment to humans, the Burmese is a lively and talkative cat that actively seeks the company of its family.
