Origin & history
The Shih Tzu is a small companion dog whose origins are associated with imperial China and Tibet, where it was pampered in the court's entourage. With a long, abundant silky coat, it was bred as a companion and prestige dog, valued for its appearance and its affectionate temperament. Introduced to the West in the 20th century, it found great success there as a lapdog. Its name is often translated as "lion dog," in reference to its appearance. Playful, sociable and attached to its owners, the Shih Tzu is a gentle companion, made above all for family life.
