Origin & history
The Scottish Straight refers to the cats from Scottish Fold breeding that retain straight ears, without the mutation that folds them. Essential to the breed, they serve as breeding partners for Scottish Folds in order to avoid mating two cats carrying the folded-ear gene, which prevents joint problems. The Scottish Straight thus shares the Scottish origin of the 1960s, the same rounded physical type and the same temperament as the Fold, except for its erect ears. Calm, gentle and sociable, it is an affectionate companion available in short hair as well as semi-long hair.
