Origin & history
The Highland Fold is the long-haired variety of the Scottish Fold, the famous cat with ears folded forward. The origin goes back to Scotland, where a cat with folded ears named Susie was discovered in the 1960s on a farm. This spontaneous genetic mutation affecting the cartilage gave rise to the Fold line. The long-haired variety, sometimes called the Highland Fold depending on the registry, has the same gentle, placid temperament. It is a calm, affectionate and sociable cat, valued for its endearing expression and its quiet nature suited to indoor living.
