Origin & history
The Chow-Chow is a very ancient breed originating from China, where it has been depicted since antiquity and where it served at once as a guard dog, a hunting dog and a draft dog. Recognizable by its abundant mane, its stiff gait and its blue-black tongue, it was long prized in temples and imperial courts. Introduced to Europe in the 19th century, particularly to England, it became a sought-after companion dog there. Independent, dignified and reserved toward strangers, the Chow-Chow is a loyal companion that becomes deeply attached to its family.
