Origin & history
The Harrier is a British scent hound selected for pack hunting, mainly hare, hence its name derived from an old word for that game. Of a morphology close to the Foxhound but smaller, it was developed in England over the centuries to offer endurance, sense of smell and a sonorous voice during hunts. Sturdy and tireless, it could follow a trail for hours over varied terrain. Sociable and energetic, the Harrier is today a rare dog as a pet, retaining a powerful pack instinct and a great need for exercise.
