Origin & history
The Devon Rex appeared in the late 1950s in the county of Devon, in England, from a curly-coated kitten born to a stray cat. This waviness comes from a natural genetic mutation, distinct from that of the neighboring Cornish Rex. Breeders fixed this trait to create a breed with a short, soft and curly coat, large ears and a pixie face. Lively, playful and very attached to humans, the Devon Rex is renowned for its mischievous and sociable temperament. It loves to climb, follow its owners everywhere and take part in household life.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Devon Rex hypoallergenic?
No cat is entirely hypoallergenic, but its short, fine coat sometimes causes less discomfort for certain sensitive people.
Does its coat require particular care?
An occasional very gentle brushing is enough; its fragile coat cannot withstand brushing that is too vigorous.
What is its temperament?
Very playful, curious and affectionate, it constantly seeks company and loves to be with its owners.
