Origin & history
The Balinese is a semi-long-haired cat breed that appeared in the United States in the mid-20th century, derived from Siamese cats naturally carrying the long-hair gene. Rather than setting these kittens aside, breeders chose to select for them, giving rise to an elegant variety named Balinese in reference to the grace of Balinese dancers. It shares with the Siamese its slender silhouette, its blue eyes, and its colorpoint coat, but displays a longer silky coat and a plumed tail. Talkative, intelligent, and very attached to humans, it is an affectionate and demonstrative companion.

Does its semi-long coat require a lot of maintenance?
No, in the absence of a dense undercoat, weekly brushing is generally enough to keep its silky coat in good condition.
Is it suitable for family life?
