Origin & history
The Chihuahua is considered the smallest dog breed in the world and takes its name from the Mexican state of Chihuahua, where it was discovered in the 19th century. Its ancestors are thought to be linked to the Techichi, a small dog revered by the pre-Columbian civilizations of Mexico, notably the Toltecs. Having become popular in the United States and then around the world, it exists in short-haired and long-haired varieties. Despite its small size, it is a dog with a lively, brave temperament, very attached to its owner, often described as having a big character in a small body.
