Origin & history
The Pug, also called Carlin, is an ancient breed originating from China, where these small flat-faced dogs were pampered in the imperial courts. Brought back to Europe by Dutch merchants from the 16th century onward, it became the favorite of many royal and aristocratic families, notably in the Netherlands and England. Its French name is said to come from a masked comedian of the 18th century. With its round, wrinkled face, its corkscrew tail, and its jovial temperament, the Pug is today an affectionate, sociable companion dog that is particularly attached to its owners.
