Origin & history
The French Bulldog was born in the 19th century, the result of crosses between small English bulldogs brought to France by workers and local dogs. Adopted by Parisian workers, notably in the Halles district, it quickly won over the artists and bourgeoisie of the Belle Époque, becoming a symbol of Parisian urban life. Recognizable by its erect bat-like ears and its flattened muzzle, it was selected as a companion dog. Affectionate, playful, and attached to its owners, it is today one of the most popular breeds in the world, particularly suited to city living.
Frequently asked questions
Does the French Bulldog have specific health problems?
Yes, its flattened muzzle makes it sensitive to breathing difficulties and heat. It can also present back and skin problems at the level of the folds.
Is it suitable for apartment living?
Yes, it is a calm and not very active dog that adapts very well to apartments and does not need long, intense outings.
Does it tolerate heat and effort well?
No, because of its short muzzle, intense effort and high heat, which can put it in danger, must be avoided.
