Origin & history
The Shetland Sheepdog, or Sheltie, originates from the Shetland Islands, north of Scotland, where the harsh climate and scarcity of resources favored the emergence of small animals. It guarded flocks of sheep and ponies and protected crops. Its resemblance to the Collie is no coincidence, as crosses helped fix its type. Officially recognized in the early 20th century, it quickly established itself as a companion dog thanks to its beauty and gentleness. Very intelligent and eager to please, it shines today in obedience and agility disciplines.
