Origin & history
The American Bulldog descends from working bulldogs brought to North America by European settlers. Established mainly in the southern United States, it worked on farms to guard properties, contain livestock, and hunt wild game. After World War II, the breed was endangered; breeders such as John D. Johnson helped save it. Powerful, athletic, and courageous, it is characterized by its musculature, its attachment to its family, and its protective instinct. Today, it is a loyal companion that requires consistent training and early socialization.
