Origin & history

The Xoloitzcuintle, or Mexican hairless dog, is one of the oldest breeds of the American continent, with origins dating back several millennia among the pre-Hispanic peoples of Mexico. Its name derives from the Aztec god Xolotl and the word "itzcuintli" meaning dog. Considered sacred, it was credited with the role of guiding souls to the afterlife and with therapeutic virtues linked to the warmth of its skin. It exists in a bare, hairless variety and a coated variety, as well as in three sizes. Calm, faithful and attentive, the Xolo is an affectionate companion that requires particular protection of its exposed skin.
