Origin & history
The Whippet is a medium-sized sighthound developed in England, notably in the 19th century, from Greyhounds and probably terriers. Popular with the working classes, it was used for rabbit hunting and racing, earning the nickname "the poor man's greyhound" owing to its more economical upkeep than the Greyhound. Capable of impressive bursts of speed over short distances, it combines elegance, refinement and musculature. Despite its energy on the track, at home the Whippet is a surprisingly calm and gentle dog, very attached to its family, that enjoys comfort and tranquility.
