Origin & history
The German Spitz is a family of very ancient Nordic dogs from Central Europe, recognizable by their pointed muzzle, their erect ears, their tail curled over the back and their abundant coat. Farm watchdogs valued for their alertness, they come in several sizes, from the large Spitz to the tiny Toy Spitz, better known as the Pomeranian. This smallest variety gained popularity as a companion dog, notably thanks to the enthusiasm of European courts in the 19th century. Lively, attentive and attached to its owners, the German Spitz is an excellent watchdog with an assertive character.
