Origin & history
The Samoyed takes its name from the Samoyedic peoples of northern Siberia, who bred it to guard the reindeer, pull sleds and keep their masters warm. This Nordic dog with a dense white double coat was a true member of the community, sharing the daily life of these populations in extreme conditions. Discovered by polar explorers at the end of the 19th century, it took part in expeditions before spreading to the West. Recognizable by its dazzling coat and its characteristic "smile," the Samoyed is a sociable, energetic and friendly dog, ill-suited to solitude.
