Origin & history
The European Shorthair is an officially recognized feline breed, derived from the standardization of the common European domestic cat, the alley cat. From these sturdy, widespread cats found throughout Europe, breeders, notably in the Nordic countries, fixed a standard to showcase this natural feline while preserving its traditional appearance. Unlike the unselected alley cat, the European Shorthair has a morphology and coats defined by a standard. Balanced, hardy and a good hunter, it is renowned for its sociable temperament, its sturdiness and its ease of adaptation to family life.
