Origin & history
The Norwegian Elkhound is a very ancient Nordic breed, present in Scandinavia for thousands of years. Of spitz type, with its dense gray coat and curled tail, it was used to hunt big game, in particular elk, as well as for guarding and draft work. Sturdy and hardy, perfectly adapted to cold climates, it accompanied hunters by signaling and holding game at a distance. Courageous, lively and independent, the Elkhound is also a loyal companion attached to its family. It needs regular exercise and enjoys outdoor activities.
