Origin & history
The Dalmatian owes its name to Dalmatia, a region of present-day Croatia where it has long been mentioned, even if its exact origins remain debated. Recognizable by its white coat spotted with black or brown, it has filled many roles over time: guard dog, hunting dog and above all carriage dog. In England, it became famous as a coach dog, running alongside the horse-drawn carriages it escorted and protected. Energetic, hardy and attached to humans, it needs a lot of exercise and remains today an elegant companion full of liveliness.
