Origin & history
The Cymric is the semi-long-haired variety of the Manx, the famous tailless cat originating from the Isle of Man. Its name evokes Wales, although the breed is closely linked to the history of the Manx. The mutation responsible for the absence or reduction of the tail appeared naturally in this isolated island population. The long coat is thought to be the result of a recessive gene present for a long time, brought out by breeders in the 20th century, particularly in North America. Sturdy and rounded, the Cymric is a gentle, sociable and playful cat, attached to its family.
