Origin & history

The Continental Bulldog is a recent breed developed in Switzerland from the 2000s onward, on the initiative of breeders wanting a healthier, more athletic bulldog than the English Bulldog. By crossing the latter with the Old English Bulldog, they sought to obtain a dog with a slightly more open muzzle, able to breathe and move more easily, while retaining the compact molosser appearance. First recognized in Switzerland, the breed stands out for its balanced, lively and friendly temperament. It is a sturdy family companion, attached to its people and hardier than its brachycephalic cousins.
