Origin & history
The German Pointer, or German Shorthaired Pointer (Deutsch Kurzhaar), is a versatile hunting dog developed in Germany in the 19th century. Resulting from crosses between old pointers and hunting dogs, it was selected to be capable of pointing game, retrieving it, and working both on land and in water. Hardy, fast, and endowed with an excellent sense of smell, it has become one of the most appreciated pointing dogs among hunters. Athletic and intelligent, it also makes a dynamic companion for active families, provided it is given enough exercise and stimulation.
