Origin & history
The English Springer Spaniel is among the oldest British hunting dogs, descended from the land spaniels used for centuries to flush and retrieve game. Its name comes from its function: making the birds "spring" out of the thickets. In the early 20th century, it was officially distinguished from the smaller Cocker Spaniel. Enduring, endowed with a keen sense of smell and a great eagerness to please, it excels at work as well as at home. Today, a distinction is made between very energetic working lines and show lines, all known for their kindness and attachment.
